On the way to Myrtles bathroom, Ron and Harry are caught by Professor McGonagall who asks them what they are doing. Harry thinks on his feet and tells her that they were going to visit Hermione. She is very sympathetic and grants them permission. This visit proves to be most helpful. In Hermiones right hand, a piece of paper is clenched which explains all about the Basilisk. Beneath the print was a single word in Hermiones handwriting pipes Of the many fearsome beasts and monsters that roam our land, there is none more curious or more deadly than the Basilisk, known also as the King of Serpents. This snake, which may reach gigantic size, and live many hundreds of years, is born from a chickens egg, hatched beneath a toad. A light switched on in Harrys head and he pieced all the puzzle pieces together. The reason only he could hear the monster was because it was a snake and he understood Parseltongue (snake talk). The reason nobody died was because they didnt look straight at the Basilisk. Colin saw it through a camera, Justin saw it through a ghost, the ghost got it full blast but could die again, and Hermione and the prefect saw it through a mirror. The Basilisk has been getting around through the pipes. Hagrids roosters were killed because the crow was fatal and Aragog feared it because he was a spider and spiders were the Basilisks mortal enemies. From this point, the book really sped up as if a bike had slowly been peddling up hill and now it was racing quickly down the other side.  It is now revealed why Professor Lockhart was introduced to the book. He was instructed by the teacher to fight the monster in the chamber of secrets because he had been boasting that he knew where the entrance was and what the beast was. This also got him out of the teachers way. Gideroy Lockharts secret is revealed when they find him packing. He did not do any of the things he had said he had done in his books and he was completely fake. He knows nothing about defense again the dark arts (which is the subject he teaches) and is a coward. He then attempts to wipe Harrys and Rons memories and leave quickly, but the spell backfires on him and he loses his memory.  The story is made very personal when it hits close to home and involves Rons own sister, Ginny Weasley. Just as in book one, the attention is put on the main character, which the series is based on, Harry at the end of the novel. In book one, Harry, Ron and Hermione are going through the line of enchantments and then Ron is left behind. Then Hermione is left behind which leaves Harry to go on and save the day. Once again, in this novel, first Hermione is petrified so she is out of the picture, then Dumbledore and Hagrid leave then Lockhart and Ron are trapped behind large boulders and only Harry is left to go and solve the mystery and save the day once again. When Harry comes face to face with Riddle in the chamber, he looks like he is still fifteen when in fact it is fifty years later. When the word mystery is thought of, the word weird can be connected to it. Near the end of this mystery novel the word weird is used in a description. Tom Riddle had been at Hogwarts fifty years ago, yet here he stood, a weird, misty light shining about him, not a day older than sixteen. Harry asks Tom for help, he looks at Tom as if he was a friend but then comes to the realisation that Tom is evil and the picture is turned around once again. Forcing both Harry and the reader to take another approach, a different approach and look at everything in a whole new way. This isnt the first time this has happened in this novel. Tom Riddle writes his full name in the air using Harrys wand and then with one slash of the wand, the letters rearrange from TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE to I AM LORD VOLDEMORT. Suddenly all the readers questions have been answered. The reader has found where Voldemort comes into the story and why the diary is important and why it was important that the fact that Harry could speak Parseltongue came into the novel. He could not kill Harry when Harry was a baby and failed to do it the year before so now he wants to finish the job once and for all. Other characters may find it hard to understand Tom Riddle/Voldemort, because Tom was always a very bright student at Hogwarts and was relied on by professors as head boy. He was thought to be able to achieve great things and no one other than Dumbledore ever suspected him to do anything remotely evil, as it turned out, he became the leader of evil, and known as the Dark Lord. Voldemort killed innocent muggles and magical people alike just for fun. He was ruthless and evil and had a high-pitched evil laugh. Due to the fact that he killed for fun, nothing would have gone through his head while murdering a numerous amount of people. While trying to kill Harry, he would have been thinking that he must finish his unfinished business and regain his position as the most powerful dark wizard. While killing muggles, he would have been thinking about revenge on his muggle father who left his witch mother because he found out she was a witch. When Ginny wrote in Toms diary, he was bored hearing about her pitiful woes and worries but he was polite and sympathetic towards her and he got what he wanted from her. When Harry finds his diary he is excited and speaks to Harry like a new friend. He gains Harrys trust too. When Ginny writes to Tom again, he is angered that she is the one writing to him and not Harry. He makes Ginny come down to the chamber and wait for the honourable Harry Potter to save her and give him, Tom, a chance to kill Harry. When he comes face to face with Harry he wonders whether there is anything special about him that made it so hard for him to kill Harry. I can see now there is nothing special about you, after all. I wondered, you see. Tom is cocky and believes that he can defeat Harry now and becomes angered with the Basilisk (monster of Slytherin), when it chases the Phoenix instead of Harry. When Tom believes he has defeated Harry he speaks like he is high and almighty and tells Harry that Lord Voldemort got him in the end and it was inevitable. Youll be back with your dear Mudblood mother soon, Harry She bought you twelve years of borrowed time but Lord Voldemort got you in the end, as you knew he must. When he realises the phoenix tears heal wounds, he feels foolish but quickly covers it by stating that he would rather it this way so it is one on one, Voldemort against Harry, but Harry quickly kills him by plunging the Basilisk fang into the diary where it burns a hole like acid would have done. Ink poured out of the book in torrents and Riddle vanished with a contorted look of pain on his face. He was defeated. After Harry had done a lot of explaining about what had occurred in the Chamber of Secrets and how they had found out about where it was and what was in it, he was rewarded and the book ends on a cheerful note with Harry saving the day again.  Voldemort is still hiding somewhere out there in the world, so it leaves it open for him to return yet again in the next novel to try and defeat Harry once again, using another method and managing to affect another Defence against The Dark Arts teacher.

Due to these events in 1940, the military made the decision to hold the Navys fleet exercises in the vicinity of Hawaii. After these training exercise, the fleet continue to stay at Pearl. Once the war in Europe began on 3 September 1939 as Britain and France declared war on Germany following the German invasion of Poland. These actions involving Japan and the United States that leads to the rage and uneasiness between them to keep increasing. On Madera 3 February 1, 1941, the U.S. Fleet split into separate Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. On 1 February 1941, General Order 143 renewed the name and restructured the United States Fleet into three separate fleets (Atlantic, Pacific, and Asiatic). The recently created Pacific Fleet remained base at Pearl Harbor definitely in order to support the U.S. Pacific Commands theater strategy, provide valuable, trained, and combat-ready naval forces U.S. unified commanders along the pacific. Further enhancements where added to the channel and by mid 1941; the whole fleet could be docked within the defensive waters of Pearl Harbor, a detail not unnoticed by the Japanese military leaders. Also because the United States, cut off the Japanese of oil and steel goods a rise of tension came about form these two countries. The American president Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) decide to call for increased air and naval power. In addition Congress set aside $37 Billion dollars for arms and for allies if ever neede d. The attack on Pearl Harbor was no simple task for any country to accomplish in destroying. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor is credited to one man Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, commander-in-chief of the Imperial Japanese Combined Fleet. He insisted that Japans war plans for southward expansion include a air fleet. This air fleet of mobile force was based on six carriers in three divisions (Akagi, fleet flag ship and Kaga; Shokaku and Zuikaku; Hiryu and Soryu ) with a total of more than four hundred planes. The six carriers were a screen of nine destroyers, by a light cruiser a supporting force of two battleships and two heavy cruisers plus a train of eight tankers and supply ships. Although the idea of the attact was greatly credit to Yamamoto it was Vice Admiral Chuichi Nagumo known for his specialties in torpedoes who contributed the idea of dropping propellered boxed torpedoes from aircraft. After a ten month Madera 4 campaign and preparation on December 3 the fleet was assembled and by November 22, 1941 at Hitokappu Bay sailed to a point some nine hundred miles north of Midway and turned southeast. After parting company with the tankers, all the warships increased speed until the carriers reached the designated point of launch 275 miles due north of Pearl Harbor. As attack on Pearl Harbor was drawing near the Japanese were now ready to fly to their target. Within fifteen minutes 183 aircraft from the six carriers , torpedo bombers, high level bombers, and dive bomber with Zero fighters as escorts headed towards Pearl Harbor. Mitsuo Fuchida, the man responsible for the coordination of the entire aerial attack and the leader the first air wave attacks on Pearl Harbor was wearing a blood- red -shirt to conceal any wounds from his men, was flying in an aircraft piloted by Lieutenant Commander Nakaya Kenju. Mitsuo Mitsuo Fuchida shouted Tora Tora Tora into the microphone which means Tiger in Japanese when they arrived over Pearl and at 0753hrs Hawaiian time-the code word to report that total surprise had been achieved was broadcast by the Japanese on the Harbor. Afterword at 8:40 a.m. a second wave of 170 attackers arrived causing more damage. Once it was over the total lost in Americas fleet included all eighteen United States ships were either s unk or badly damaged, including four battleships on the bottom and four crippled; For the Japanese 29 planes were destroyed and 74 damaged. It was reported that America had 2,403 killed and 1,178 the vast majority were sailors. At the various Airfields 188 US planes were destroyed. Both senior commanders at Pearl Harbor; Navy Admiral Husband E. Kimmel, and Army Lieutenant General Walter C. Short, were dismissed of their duties after the attack. American pilots sank 4 aircraft carriers and 322 Japanese planes in retribution for some of the pain that Pearl Harbor endured. In conclusion, it remains our moral duty as Americans and mine as a Soldier to not forget those who paid the price in World War II, and to keep in mind what occurred on that Sunday morning almost 60 years ago. I look in brief at the months before the attack, and reflect on how history is frequently based on ones perspective of the event. I then look in brief at the assault specifically and finally I examine both its instant and long-lasting effects on Hawaii and our Nations future. Hard to believe or not one thing that came out of the attack on Pearl Harbor is that Hawaii has become the 50th state and populace of Japanese decent and those of mainland Madera 6 roots live together in peace. The financial liveliness of Hawaii today relies largely on site seen from both Japan and the U.S. mainland. The U.S. now has also has a navy larger than any in the world making sure that this would not happen again as it has 11 carriers in its fleet. Throughout the time, the U.S. was neutral before Pearl Harbor during WW2, the planning of the attack by Japan, the attack itself and the after math shows that war is costly both financially and deathly. It is the reason why we American value are freedom more and more after a major war.
